Silver and bronze medal in trampoline gymnastics at the World Age Group Competition in Bulgaria

Gymnastics Canada – SOFIA, BUL (November 17, 2017) – Mackenzie Kyfiuk of Okotoks, AB and Alexandra Forest of Edmonton, AB won a silver and bronze medal respectively on Friday in the women’s 17 to 21 double mini-trampoline competition at the 2017 Trampoline Gymnastics World Age Group Competition.
 
“Honestly, I’m speechless and I’m so happy with my competition, completing all of my planned passes,” said Kyfiuk with a silver medal around her neck. “My goal was to do my personal best so this is beyond my expectations!”
 
Kyfiuk and Forest, both junior national team members, were joined in the finals by Haley Nakonechni of Regina, Sasketchewan, who finished in fifth.
 
“Being such a big competition, it was a great having a huge support system,” said Forest. “It’s a good feeling knowing we’ve all worked so hard for this and we all got to live our dream.” Forest will also be competing in the tumbling competition on Saturday, “I have high hopes for tumbling but I just want to go out and do my best passes – the same way that I did for double mini-trampoline,” said Forest.
 
In the men’s 17 to 21 age group double mini-trampoline competition, Zachary Blakely of Red Deer, AB qualified to finals and finished fourth, narrowly missing the podium due to a 0.9 deduction.
