Canadian Sport Institute Pacific – SierraSil Health Inc joins with Canadian Olympic Committee and host of Community Partners to present fundraiser in support of MindRoom™ mental training space for high performance athletes in B.C.

VANCOUVER (Thursday, January 4th, 2018) – The inaugural 2018 SierraSil IMPROV GAMES presented by the Canadian Olympic Committee will bring Olympians, Paralympians, world championship medallists, media personalities and other celebrities to Vancouver Theatre Sports on Granville Island for a unique fund-raiser Thursday, February 1st.

SierraSil and the Canadian Olympic Committee signed on as the lead partners for the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific production designed to raise awareness and funds for the development of the MindRoom™, a dedicated space for mental training for high performance athletes in British Columbia. SierraSil is on board as Title Partner while the COC is serving as Presenting Partner.

“We’re delighted to welcome and acknowledge SierraSil and the Canadian Olympic Committee as our lead partners for what we like to think will be a fun event in the immediate lead up to the Winter Games in South Korea,” said Wendy Pattenden, Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, whose team of sport scientists is behind the MindRoom™ concept. “Of course, our focus on innovation here at Canadian Sport Institute Pacific is typically sport science or technology-based but we’re thankful to have SierraSil and the COC fuel that innovative spirit in such a fun and different way at the IMPROV GAMES fundraiser.”

the 2018 SierraSil IMPROV GAMES presented by the Canadian Olympic Committee at Vancouver TheatreSports will bring to the stage the best practices of innovating on the fly and in the heat of the moment. They are an opportunity to see Canada’s Olympians, Paralympians and world championship medallists demonstrate their ability to improvise individually and as teams, competing alongside media personalities and other community and business champions and partners. The on-stage format is a two-team competition, with each team led by an improv actor from highly-touted Vancouver TheatreSports.

The VIP reception is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start on February 1st, and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m.

“We’re honoured to have the opportunity to support athletes in British Columbia and across the country,” said Michael Bentley, President of SierraSil. “It’s a natural fit given our commitment to helping Canadians be healthy and active, and our joy is that our products reduce aches and pain that inhibit Canadians pursing their best in life or sports. We’re also very happy to support with the other sponsors the wonderful team of sport scientists at Canadian Sport Institute Pacific.”

Canadian Sport Institute Pacific registered athletes have been among the top performers in recent Olympic Games, World Championships and World Cups but the organization will not rest on its laurels and is using the MindRoom concept to help deliver the kinds of services high performance athletes and coaches are looking for to further improve their results on the world stage for Canada.

“The MindRoom™ will be a dedicated space bringing together applied research and bio-feedback to help facilitate effective mental training, recovery and optimal mental performance for and by Canadian athletes,” explained Pattenden. “So the mental creativity of our guest athletes at the IMPROV GAMES will help support the mental focus of our entire group of high performance athletes registered with Canadian Sport Institute Pacific. We thought it would be a fun and different way to approach fund-raising and we’re grateful for the supportive response received to date. It will be spontaneous, fun and best of all, it supports the MindRoom™ and the next generation of Canadian high performance athletes residing and training in British Columbia.”

The 2018 SierraSil IMPROV GAMES will present five rounds of improvisational competition, with a different scene in each round. A three-person judging panel will keep everyone on the tips of their toes.

“Thanks to SierraSil for helping the inaugural IMPROV GAMES make their debut this coming February 1st and to the Canadian Olympic Committee, our proud Presenting Partner,” said Pattenden. “We would also like to thank the kind support and cooperation of our Community Partners: Adamek Financial, BC Games Society, BC Sports Hall of Fame, Fortius Sport & Health, PISE, Richmond Olympic Oval, Sport for Life Society, Sport BC, UBC, UVic and viaSport. We also want to thank our media partners, TSN 1040 and The Sport Market, and our Silent Auction Partner, Pastime Sports and Games. They all define the very essence of collaboration that is at the heart of Canadian Sport Institute Pacific.”

Pattenden noted there was a purposeful goal of inviting collaboration and support from the larger family of sports organizations and leaders in British Columbia. The approach aligns with the CSI Pacific mantra of “Collaborate. Serve. Innovate.”

“Whether it is with our national sport federation or provincial sport association partners or with corporate and community partners, we’re committed to creating value through collaboration and cooperation at every level of what we do in high performance sport,” added Pattenden.
