Rowing Canada Aviron  – VICTORIA, BC – Wednesday, July 5, 2017 –Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) announced their crew selections for World Rowing Cup 3 in Lucerne, Switzerland from July 7 – 9. This event is the first international competition for Canada’s senior team, which includes a combination of returning Rio 2016 Olympians and athletes making their debut at the World Rowing Cup series.
 
RCA’s 2017 National Team crews will be led by recently appointed Men’s Head Coach, Terry Paul and Women’s Head Coach, Dave Thompson.
 
Ellen Gleadow has been selected to her first senior team and will compete in the lightweight women’s double sculls with Jill Moffatt. Carling Zeeman, who won a gold medal at the 2016 World Rowing Cup 1 and finished 10^th in her first Olympic Games in Rio, will race in the women’s single sculls. These crews will be supported by Thompson.
 
In the women’s four, Nicole Hare and Hillary Janssens, last year’s under-23 champions in the women’s pair, join Olympians Christine Roper and Susanne Grainger. The women’s four event was recently added to the Olympic rowing program by the International Olympic Committee. Hare also competed in the women’s pair at the Rio Olympic Games. This crew will be supported by Michelle Darvill, senior national team coach.
 
Brothers Max and Aaron Lattimer will be facing each other in the lightweight men’s double sculls, with Max partnering with Taylor Hardy and Aaron with Patrick Keane. These crews will be supported by Roger Meager, senior assistant national team coach.
 
The men’s pair and double sculls both feature international Olympic and World Championship experience with Will Crothers and Kai Langerfeld teaming up in the pair and in the double sculls, Matthew Buie and Conlin McCabe. Trevor Jones, will join this group of veterans to compete in his first World Cup regatta following successful Junior and Under-23 World Championship campaigns in 2015 and 2016, respectively. These crews will be supported by Terry Paul and Jeremy Ivey, senior assistant national team coach.
 
Over 140 athletes participated in this year’s selection process, competing in pairs and singles at Speed Order Trials for a spot at the selection camp in Burnaby, BC. Athletes were then invited to the National Team Training Centres (London, ON and Victoria, BC) where selections were confirmed for the 2017 World Cup and Under-23 World Championship National Teams.
