Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association – Seneca College has been approved to host the 2018 CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championships.

The bid was approved today at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association annual general meeting in Abbotsford, BC. The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) institution, located in Toronto, ON, will host the CCAA event Nov. 9-10, 2018.

“We are excited about coming to Seneca in 2018 as they have a proud history of hosting great Cross-Country Running events and CCAA Championships in a variety of sports,” said Bill Corcoran, CCAA Cross-Country Running Convenor. “The course they have planned promises to be the most picturesque venue we’ve ever run at.”

The race will take place at Seneca’s King Campus, which runs parallel to Lake Seneca. Historic Eaton Hall is also located off the north-west side of the course.

The Women’s 6km race will consist of two 3-km loops, while the men’s event will be an 8-km race.

The Championships will be a fitting way to celebrate the opening of Seneca’s new building, “Magna Hall”, which will open September 2018 and house a double gymnasium, fitness centre, climbing wall, two activity studios and much more.

The Sting recently hosted the 2017 CCAA Badminton National Championships as well as the 2016 OCAA Cross Country Championships. They have an experienced hosting committee that is set to build on their recent successes.

“With a core dedicated and professional staff, combined with eager and capable volunteers and students, Seneca is eager to present a team effort that will showcase the CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championships while focusing on a positive student-athlete experience,” said Linda Stapleton, Director Sport and Recreation at Seneca College

The 2017 CCAA Cross-Country Running National Championships will be hosted by Collège Lionel-Groulx Nov. 10-11.
