  • Rain has pushed the conclusion of the quarter-finals into Saturday, with play beginning at 11 a.m. No. 4 seed and Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza currently leads Elina Svitolina 6-4, 0-0 on Centre Court while No. 2 seed Simona Halep and Caroline Garcia will start their match on National Bank Grandstand Court.
  • The winner of both matches above will take the court again in the evening, facing off in the 6 p.m. semifinal.
  • One semifinal has been set and will see No. 6 seed and 2010 Rogers Cup champion Caroline Wozniacki face off against Sloane Stephens, who is engineering a remarkable comeback. Ranked No. 934, she entered Rogers Cup on a protected ranking and this is just her third tournament back following nearly an 11-month lay-off.
  • Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Jelena Ostapenko will play their postponed quarter-final doubles match with a hope of making the semifinals, to be played later in the evening.
  • The Rogers Cup Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Tracy Austin was postponed because of the weather and will take on Saturday evening at 5:45 p.m. before the first night session match.

  • Roger Federer, who is currently involved in a race to the top of the ATP rankings along with Rafael Nadal, will attempt to win his 16th consecutive match as he faces Robin Haase of the Netherlands.
  • Haase, world no. 52, will be making his first semi-final appearance at a Masters 1000 tournament.
  • The second semi-final will feature two of the next generation of ATP stars in Denis Shapovalov (18 years old) and Alexander Zverev (20 years old).
  • Zverev is looking to take home his second consecutive title, after being crowned champion at Washington last week.
  • On Friday, Shapovalov became the youngest player in history to qualify for a Masters 1000 semi-final. The Canadian is already assured to move up to world no. 67.
