Nova Scotia Golf Association – The final day at the 2016 MCT Men’s Mid- Amateur was washed out. Rains and a heavy thunder storm made conditions unsafe for play to continue. Overall it was an intense and exciting weekend of golf at the Antigonish Golf Club.

Sean Stuart, Ashburn, has won his second provincial championship in 2016. Earlier this summer, Sean Stuart and Chris Evans captured the Men’s Four Ball at Paragon Golf Club. Stuart had command of the lead after day one, and finished 69-73-142. He had eight birdies in two rounds and twenty-two pars. It was Stuart’s strong finish on 18 that gave him the edge. He ended the tournament two under par.

Geoff Campbell, Oakfield, finished one behind Stuart in second place with 71-72-143. Campbell had the low round on day 2. Campbell finished second overall in the tournament. Campbell’s consistency was key through the tough conditions. He tied with Josh Bouchie for the second most pars in the tournament, with twenty four.

David Williamson, Truro, finished in third place overall after a tough second day. Williamson finished 70-76-146 (+2). Williamson tied Stuart for the most birdies in the tournament with eight.

Aaron Nickerson won in a playoff against Paul Coulson to become eligible for the 2016 Nova Scotia Mid- Amateur team. Nickerson birdied number one and two in the playoff to get nod for the Mid- Master division.  Nickerson will join Stuart and Campbell at Golf Chateau- Bromont in Bromont Quebec to play in the Canadian Mid- Amateur Nationals on August 23-26. David Williamson has been selected as the alternate.

Jordan Hirtle, Ashburn, won Division 2 at the MCT Men’s Mid- Amateur Championship. Hirtle shot 78-76-155 to edge Terry Clarke and Ben Hudson by one stroke.

Garry Beattie, Ashburn, shared the top spot in Division 3 with John Archibald. Garry Beattie finished his final round with three birdies. Beattie finished 82-80-162.
