Canada Basketball – TORONTO, ON (June 28, 2018) – Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the 12-man roster for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers game against Dominican Republic on Friday.

Canada resumes the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers with a first-place showdown against Dominican Republic on Friday, June 29 in Toronto at Ricoh Coliseum. Click here for ticket information.

Following Friday’s game, Canada will conclude the first-round with a Canada Day long weekend matchup versus U.S. Virgin Islands at The Arena at TD Place on Monday, July 2 in Ottawa. Click here for ticket information.

Head Coach Jay Triano (Charlotte Hornets) will be joined by assistants Roy Rana (Ryerson University), Nathaniel Mitchell (Raptors 905), Dave Smart (Carleton University), and Scott Morrison (Boston Celtics).

After opening the Americas Qualifiers with a dominant 93-69 win over Bahamas in front of a near capacity crowd at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Canada fell 88-76 on the road to Dominican Republic to conclude the first window with a 1-1 record.  In February, Canada closed the second window with convincing wins against the U.S. Virgin Islands (118-89) and Bahamas (113-67). 

With a 3-1 record, Canada sits second in the group behind Dominican Republic (4-0) and has qualified for the second round.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China will be the biggest edition of FIBA’s flagship event with a record 32 participating teams playing 92 games over 16 days.

For the first time, the FIBA Basketball World Cup will qualify 7 teams directly for the following year’s Olympic Games.

Media are invited to attend Friday’s shoot-around at Ricoh Coliseum and are asked to arrive by 11:30 a.m.
