May 25, 2023: Canada’s women’s team is set to begin the much-anticipated Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in Antalya, TĂĽrkiye, on May 30.

The Canadian team, led by head coach Shannon Winzer, plays its first match against Poland, followed by Thailand, Korea and Serbia.

VNL will be played based on the same competition formula as in 2022, featuring 16 teams per gender. A total of 104 matches per gender will be played across the preliminary and final phases, with every team playing a minimum of 12 matches.

The women’s preliminary round competition kicks off on May 30 and takes place in Antalya, Nagoya (Japan), Hong Kong (China), Brasilia (Brazil), Suwon (Korea), and Bangkok (Thailand). The women’s Finals will follow in Arlington, Texas, USA from July 12 to 16.

Italy won the women’s tournament last year; Canada finished 12th overall.

The first week of the men’s event kicks off in Ottawa, Ontario, at the Arena at TD Place on June 06. The Canadian men’s final roster is yet to be released.
