PISE – With just hours to go until the Opening Ceremonies of the Rio Paralympics, PISE (Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence) extends good wishes for success to all athletes participating in the games, and is pleased to provide its facility and Strength and Conditioning training to many Paralympians leading up to Rio.

As a leading training facility, athletes from all sport spectrums have been training at PISE, either individually or as part of a team. Working closely in partnership with Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) helps facilitate more opportunity for these athletes, with PISE playing an important role in adapted sport. PISE is also the home of the first National Para-Rowing Centre, made possible in collaboration with Rowing Canada.

“It is a tremendous honor to be able to work with such a diverse group of individuals from across the country,” says Jonathan Ritchot, PISE Adapted Strength and Conditioning Specialist. “Their daily work ethic, positive attitude and desire to excel at the highest level despite some very serious obstacles is a testament to their inner strength and determination. We are very proud to be a small part in their journey and wish them the absolute best in Rio.”

Some of the para-athletes competing in Rio that train at PISE include:

Sailing: John McRoberts and Jackie Gay.
Para-rowing: Megan Montgomery, Victoria Nolan, Curtis Halladay and Andrew Todd.
Para-triathlon: Stefan Daniel.
Wheelchair Rugby: Travis Murao, Miranda Biletski and Zak Madell. PISE also hosts the whole team during training camps.
Athletics: Ness Murby

”PISE sends best wishes for a successful Rio Paralympics to all the athletes representing Canada” said Robert Bettauer, CEO of PISE.  “We consider it to be a priority to have played an important ongoing role in providing support to many of the para athletes training in BC, building awareness and expertise on creating a barrier free environment around the province.”
