Diving Canada – HELL’S GATE, Texas – Lysanne Richard of Montreal, who missed the entire 2017 season due to injury, returned to the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series and placed fifth in women’s 21-metre competition this weekend.

Adriana Jimenez of Mexico won the gold medal with 302.20 points, Jessicas Macaulay of Britain was second at 302.10 and Anna Bader of Germany third at 301.80.

Rhiannan Iffland of Australia was fourth at 301.60 and Richard followed at 264.90.

Richard injured her neck right before 2017’s season kick-off, causing her to miss out on the whole World Series. However, due to injury policy the 36-year-old’s permanent status remained untouched and she hopes for a successful comeback in 2018.

‘’Because of my neck I wasn’t able to do that many dives before the competition,’’ said Richard, who was third entering the last round. ‘’I have to go gradually when I come back from an injury like that. My last dive is my most difficult and it’s just not at the level I need it to be yet.’’

Richard enjoyed a great season in 2016 winning two World Series events as well as the World Cup title.

She is a graduate from the National Circus School of Montreal and is also an acrobat with Cirque du Soleil and is the mother of three.
