Rank Leads the Investors Group Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship for the Second Day in a Row
Golf Canada – Both days of the Investors Group Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship have been cool, and the low temperatures have allowed for high-scoring from superstars like Garrett Rank who went 64-64 in the first two rounds, and his brother Kyle Rank who recently caddied for him after he qualified for the U.S. Open sits T5 shooting 67-71 in the two rounds.
Garrett Rank, from Elmira Golf Club, started the round with 31 on the front 9 with 3 birdies, a bogey and an eagle. He finished off the round by shooting 33 on the back nine with two birdies.
Garrett Rank is passionate about his golf game, especially now after returning from the U.S. Open just a few days ago, and yesterday seemed optimistic about his chances at the Investors Group Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, “Anytime you can come and play in a provincial championship, and at the end of the day have a good day, being the clubhouse leader is something special” – Garrett Rank
In second place after the second round is Cataraqui Golf & Country Club’s Peter Sauerbrei 68-65. Stephen Brown broke the Burlington Golf and Country Club course record by shooting a 63 in the second round of the Championship. He is currently tied for 3rd with 3-time Investors Group Ontario Men’s Mid-Am Champion Dave Bunker.
About the Investors Group Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship
The Investors Group Ontario Men’s Mid-Amateur championship is a 54-hole competition featuring Ontario’s best golfers age 25 and older that have gained entry into the event through one of nine qualifying tournaments or an exemption. Competitors age 40 and over also compete for the Ontario Men’s Mid-Master division trophy. Contested annually since 1993, past champions of the event include Ontario Golf Hall of Fame members Stu Hamilton and Kelly Roberts, Dave Bunker, Graham Hill and Drew Symons.
