PyeongChang 2018: Looking ahead at Canadian Paralympic Team action on Day

• Para snowboard will hit the slopes for the first time at PyeongChang 2018 with the men’s and women’s snowboard cross, starting at 10:30 a.m. local time/9:30 p.m. Sunday ET with qualifications and the finals at 1:30 p.m. local time/12:30 a.m. ET. The sport made its Paralympic debut at Sochi 2014 and has increased its slate here in PyeongChang with added classifications for riders with upper limb impairments and the banked slalom event.

  Two riders have returned for a second Games – John Leslie and Michelle Salt – with five others joining them in PyeongChang. All will compete in the snowboard cross on Monday.
   

• Canada’s Opening Ceremony flag bearer Brian McKeever will compete in his first event in PyeongChang as the men’s visually impaired and standing 20KM cross-country races kick off at 10 a.m. local time/9 p.m. Sunday ET. McKeever, who will race with guides Graham Nishikawa and Russell Kennedy, has won gold in this distance the last two Paralympic Games in Sochi and Vancouver. Also competing in the 20KM is standing racer Mark Arendz, already a silver medallist in biathlon at these Games.

  On the women’s side, Brittany Hudak, Emily Young, and Natalie Wilkie will compete in the women’s 15KM standing event. Wilkie, who just turned 17 years old in January, is the youngest athlete on the Canadian Paralympic Team.
   

• Canada will wrap up its preliminary tournament in Para ice hockey with a contest opposite Norway at the Gangneung Hockey Centre at 3:30 p.m. local time/2:30 a.m. ET. Canada has been a dominant force at these Games so far, scoring 27 goals through its two victories. They sit first atop Group A and will advance to the semifinals.
   
• It will be a long day for Canada’s wheelchair curlers in round-robin action. The squad will first take on South Korea at 9:35 a.m. local time/8:35 p.m. Sunday ET before playing a night match versus Great Britain at 7:35 p.m. local time/6:35 a.m. ET. Skip Mark Ideson, Marie Wright, Ina Forrest, and Dennis Thiessen will be looking to keep their undefeated 3-0 record alive.
