Player list unveiled for the 30th edition of the Granby National Bank Championships

Canada’s Stakusic, Cross, Brace, and Zhao, as well as Draxl and Galarneau, are set to take part in the tournament’s main draw

[GRANBY, QC] July 2, 2025 – The list of players for the 30th edition of the Granby National Bank Championships was revealed Wednesday in Granby, Quebec during the official pre-event press conference. The combined women’s and men’s tournament, featuring an ITF W75 event and an ATP Challenger (Category 75), will be held at Tennis St-Luc from July 13 to 20, 2025.

“It’s an honour to be part of the 30th anniversary of the Granby National Bank Championships, and it’s a fitting way to celebrate such a big milestone with an outstanding list of players,” said Francis Milloy, Tournament Director of the men’s event.

“In both the ATP Challenger and ITF events, there are a number of Canadian players for fans to cheer for as well as plenty of up-and-coming and steady veteran players. We can’t wait to get things started in Granby for what will undoubtedly be an extraordinary 30th tournament.”

Leading the way as the women’s top seed is world No. 85 Yue Yuan of China. The 26-year-old had an exceptional year in 2024, securing her first WTA 250-level title at the ATX Open and reaching the quarter-final of the BNP Paribas Open. Fans will be able to cheer on several Canadians in Granby, as Mississauga’s Marina Stakusic (No. 133), London’s Kayla Cross (No. 232), Richmond Hill’s Carol Zhao (No. 273), and Toronto’s Cadence Brace (No. 286) will all be taking part in the main draw of the event. In 2024, Cross had a stellar run in Granby, reaching her first ITF W75 final before falling to American Maria Mateas, who is also part of the 2025 player list.

On the men’s side, American Eliot Spizzirri, ranked 128th in the world, will be the top seed. He won his biggest title earlier this season at the San Diego Challenger, defeating compatriot and world No. 8 Mackenzie McDonald in the championship match. Newmarket’s Liam Draxl (No. 150) and Laval’s Alexis Galarneau (No. 210) make up the Canadian contingent in the men’s main draw. Draxl is targeting his first title of the season after reaching four ATP Challenger finals already in 2025, while Galarneau, Granby champion in 2023, is looking to return to full form after missing part of his season with an injury. Brit Oliver Tarvet (No. 733), who made waves at Wimbledon this week by reaching the second round of the prestigious event, will also be in Granby, having never previously competed in an ATP Challenger tournament.

Former world No. 25 Vasek Pospisil of Vernon, British Columbia, has received a wild card into the qualifiers. Earlier this season, the 35-year-old announced that the Davis Cup Qualifiers in Montreal would be the final tie of his Davis Cup career. Pospisil, the 2022 Davis Cup champion, finishes his Davis Cup career with the second most wins of any Canadian, behind none other than Daniel Nestor.

ROAD TO THE NBO WILD CARDS ARE UP FOR GRABS

In February, it was announced that Tennis Canada would award a singles main-draw wild card to the National Bank Open presented by Rogers to the Canadian man and woman who accumulated the most points in the professional events held in Canada. The Granby Championships will hold even more importance, as the events held in July are worth double the points. On the women’s side, Cross leads the way with 120 points, while Draxl is atop the men’s standings with 72 points. To view the current standings and to follow the Road to the NBO, click here.
