Canada Basketball – LAVAL, QC (July 20, 2018) – Canada Basketball announced today that Place Bell in Laval, Quebec will host Canada’s next FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers game.  Canada will face Brazil on Thursday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. EDT.

Tickets for Canada-Brazil will go on sale Friday, July 20 at 12:00 p.m. EDT for as low as $21 through evenko.ca via Ticketmaster.

With the first round of qualification now complete, the top three teams from Group B, Venezuela (5-1), Brazil (5-1) and Chile (1-5), and Group D, Canada (5-1), Dominican Republic (4-2) and U.S. Virgin Islands (2-4), will form Group F.  Canada will now face Venezuela, Brazil and Chile on a home and away basis.

In the second round, the three highest-placed teams from each group and the best fourth placed team between Group E and Group F (a total of seven teams) will qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.

Canada redeemed their November loss to Dominican Republic with a 97-61 victory at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto and followed it up with a 99-69 win over the U.S. Virgin Islands in the nation’s capital to finish the first round of qualification with a 5-1 record.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China (Aug. 31-Sept. 15, 2019) will be the biggest edition of FIBA’s flagship event with a record 32 participating teams playing 92 games over 16 days.

For the first time, the FIBA Basketball World Cup will qualify seven teams directly for the following year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
