PISE – (Victoria, BC – March 1, 2016) PISE has announced the appointment of Deb Whitten to its 2016 Board of Directors. The appointment was made at the Board’s recent Directors meeting.

Whitten is Associate Superintendent for School District 61, having spent the last 10 years working in an administrative capacity at both the district and school level. While teaching at schools in Greater Victoria, she completed a Masters degree of Education in Leadership Studies from the University of Victoria. Her passion for providing children with tools and opportunities to live an active, healthy life stems from her distinguished athletic career which spanned 10 years as a player and coach for the Canadian National Field Hockey Team. Whitten competed in the World Cup in 1990 and 1994, the Pan American Games in 1991 and 1995 and the Olympic Games in 1992. She currently serves as the Board of Directors President for BC School Sports.

“The Board is thrilled to have Deb join. Her executive and high performance experience offers a vital skill set that will further strengthen PISE, especially as we extend our impact throughout Greater Victoria” said Colin Ewart, Chair of the PISE Board.

“Deb brings an outstanding combination of sport and education experience to PISE that really represents the spectrum of our mandate and programs” added Robert Bettauer, CEO of PISE.  “With the key role that PISE is playing guiding the implementation of quality physical literacy to the school system province wide, Deb will be instrumental in helping further build the relationship between sport, education and health.”

Whitten replaces Elaine Dagg-Jackson, coach to the Women’s National Curling Team, who served on the PISE board for four years.  “We thank Elaine for being a tireless advocate of sport excellence and the power that sport has to change and enhance lives in a most positive manner” acknowledged Bettauer.  “Elaine is very busy preparing her national curling team for the 2018 Winter Olympics, but we know we can count on her to be an ongoing champion and supporter of PISE and sport development in the Greater Victoria Region”.

The other PISE board members are: Bob Cameron, Angus Izard, Sherri Bell, Stephen Chang, Randy Smith, and Suzanne Weckend-Dill.
