Canadian Fencing Federation – Pierre Mainville (St. Colomban, QC) came away with a bronze medal this past weekend at the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Warsaw, Poland.

In action in Sabre category B, Mainville started off strong with five wins and one loss in poules which gave him a bye to the top 16’s where he fenced Zbigniew Wyganowski from Poland and won a close 15-14.

“It was really tight. We were very close together, so there was not much room to make mistakes,” stated Mainville.

Mainville then had the chance to take his revenge on the Brit against whom he had lost in pools earlier in the day, and he emerged victorious with the score of 15-10.

Advancing to the semi finals, Mainville’s day came to a stop with a 15-12 loss to Poland’s Grzegorz Pluta, giving him a bronze medal.

“Today was a good day for me, I felt very aggressive and I was able to impose my game plan at different times. It was more difficult against the Pole in the semifinals, but it is a fight that I could have won. It’s a beautiful bronze medal for me and a very good day overall,” summarized Mainville.
