PHILP WINS GIANT SLALOM NATIONAL TITLE
Alpine Canada – Mont-Tremblant, QC (March 25, 2017) – The sun and the crowds came out in Mont-Tremblant (QC) for the first day of the Canadian Championships. Calgary’s Trevor Philp went into today’s giant slalom race as the defending champion. After finishing the first run 0.25 seconds back from Dustin Cook’s lead-time, Philp had some ground to make up in the second run. The course conditions held up and Philp made a move in the second run to claim the giant slalom Canadian Champion title for the second year in a row.
Cook slipped back one spot after setting the pace in the first run, finishing the day in second-place. Joining Philp and Cook on the podium was Toronto’s Phil Brown who held third-place after the first and second run.

The boys did double-duty today at the Canadian Championships racing in the Team Event in the afternoon. This year’s teams were divided by province setting out rivalries right from the beginning. Each province had its fair share of big names filled with Canadian Alpine Ski Team members.
Friends, family and the public crowded around the finish area cheering on the athletes as they crossed the line. Team Ontario came out as today’s victors with a powerhouse line-up that included Candace Crawford, Phil Brown, Ali Nullmeyer and Henry Luel. Both Crawford and Brown were part of the 2017 World Championship team and Ali Nullmeyer was part of the 2017 World Junior Championship team that took gold in Are (SWE), making them favourites early on.
Tomorrow the ladies’ have their shot at the giant slalom Canadian Championship title.
