Canada Soccer – Canada Soccer has invited a special guest to the upcoming Para Soccer camp in Oakville, Ontario: five-time JUNO award winner and #CanadaRED fan Alan Frew. The lead singer of Canadian rock group Glass Tiger will take part in a special session on Thursday 5 May at the Oakville Soccer Centre. 

Frew will meet and interact with members of the Canadian squad, currently in preparation for this summer’s IFCPF Qualification Tournament in Vejen, Denmark (26 July to 7 August). The 2016 tournament serves as a qualification competition for the 2017 IFCPF Intercontinental Cup.

“I am so looking forward to joining the lads of #CanadaRED for a game of footie,” said Frew. “Presently recovering from a stroke myself, their team spirit, positive attitude and playing of the beautiful game despite having suffered the trauma and adversity of major health issues themselves, is nothing short of inspirational.”

In all, 21 players have been selected for the five-day camp in Oakville, Ontario from 4-8 May. Outside this large group, all-time leading goal scorer Trevor Stiles was unavailable due to injury (although he is expected to return by July).

Canada’s National Para Soccer Team is made up of athletes who have cerebral palsy or have had a stroke or brain injury. Athletes that are interested in Canada’s Para Soccer Team should contact coach Drew Ferguson at dferguson@soccercan.ca.

Mr. Frew himself is presently recovering from a stroke suffered in August 2015.
