Own the Podium – “Today we are deeply saddened by the passing of Canadian Olympic visionary and icon – Frank King. A transformative leader, far ahead of his time, Frank was the man who led the team ultimately responsible for the resounding success of Calgary 88 – the Olympic Games that opened up Canada’s remarkable spirit to the world. He was a patriot and true advocate for the power of sport. He was humble to the core – a champion for his city, province and country – one of the most trusted Canadian leaders of his generation.

His vision and good will elevated the standard by which the world now measures the success of Olympic and Paralympic Games and their legacies. If Canada is a world leading winter sport nation today, then much of the credit is owed to Frank King who believed that the Calgary 88 Games were a beginning that others could then build on.

This is truly a very sad day. Frank was as good a man as there is. A great Canadian, and a terrific friend and mentor. The best of the best.  Frank and his family are in the thoughts and prayers of Canada’s entire sport community – we wish him lasting peace.”
