Toronto 2017 NAIG Host Society – Inclement weather pushes back event 90 minutes
 
Viewing party begins at 8:00 p.m.
 
The Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games (Toronto 2017 NAIG) Opening Ceremony presented by HydroOne, set for tonight at Aviva Centre, has been postponed to 9:00 p.m. – from an original start time of 7:30 p.m. – to due to inclement weather.
 
Planned prep-rallies and the parade of athletes have been cancelled, to allow for the remaining programming to continue as scheduled.
 
Surprise performances will proceed as planned. The Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games viewing party, located on the South Utility field at the York University Keele campus (the cultural festival site for the Games), has been postponed to a start time of 8:00 p.m.
Guests with tickets to either the Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games Opening Ceremony presented by Hydro One or the Official Viewing Party, are asked to make adjustments in travel times to accommodate new start times. For any guest already en-route or for those on-site, shelter is available if needed during the inclement weather period, at York Lanes or Tait McKenzie Gymnasium at the York University Campus.
The Weather Network (official weather partner of the Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games) has estimated that the inclement weather and risk of thunderstorms should pass the area by 7:30 p.m.

About the Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games
From July 16-23, 2017, the North American Indigenous Games (2017 NAIG) will welcome more than 5,000 participants, 2,000 volunteers and countless spectators from across North America. Sport and cultural venues include Humber College, McMaster University, York University, University of Toronto Scarborough, City of Toronto facilities, City of Hamilton venues, and venues within Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. A total of 14 sports will be offered for competition during the event, in addition to week-long cultural festivals, featuring programming such as traditional teachings, Indigenous artists, vendors and cultural performers.
