Open Finals Set for the Canadian Championships
Racquetball Canada – Canada’s top ranked athletes have advanced to the finals in the open events at the Racquetball Canada Canadian Championships being held in Brossard, QC. The tournament runs from May 22 to 27.
In Men’s Open Singles, top seed Mike Green of Hamilton and second seed Samuel Murray of Baie-Comean will play in Saturday’s final. A win will give Green his eleventh Canadian Open Singles title, which would be the most titles won by a male athlete in the history of Canadian racquetball. Samuel Murray has been close to the top of the podium several times and has his sights set on his first national Men’s Open Singles title.
In Women’s Open Singles, top seed Frédérique Lambert of Montréal will face second seed Jennifer Saunders of Winnipeg in the final. Saunders is the reigning Canadian Open Women’s Singles Champion, having won the title a total of nine times. Lambert defeated Saunders in 2015 to claim the Championship title when she last competed in the Canadian Championships.
Christine Richardson of Winnipeg will play Michèle Morissette of Baie-Comeau in the Women’ Open bronze medal match. Richardson is seeded second and Morissette is the fifth seed in the tournament.
Third seed Tim Landeryou of Calgary and fifth seed James Landeryou of Saskatoon will play in Saturday’s bronze medal match.
The Canadian Championship event includes several age and skill events. The tournament provides an excellent high performance and competition for life opportunity for Canadian athletes. There are 110 athletes from 10 provinces participating in the 2017 Championship event.
