Sport Nova Scotia – HALIFAX, NS (June 12th, 2018) – On June 10th, two top wrestlers from Nova Scotia competed at the 2018 Women’s and Men’s Freestyle Wrestling Championships held in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Makayla Levy of Wolfville, NS captured gold in the Women’s 130lbs High School division this past Sunday. In the gold medal match, Levy outscored her opponent 5-1 to claim the win. Levy has recently represented Canada at the United World Wrestling Pan-American Games in Guatemala and captured her second national title in the U17/U19 Canadian Wrestling Championships. Levy will represent Team Canada in Zagreb, Croatia July 2nd– 8th, 2018 at the upcoming World Cadet Championships.

Sixteen year old Elias Wile from Kingsburg, NS also earned gold at this past weekend in the Men’s 145lbs High School Division, outscoring his opponent 10-0. Wile has been actively wrestling in many tournaments, claiming gold in the Matmen Classic and the Montreal Open this past season. Wile is a member of the NS Provincial team and will participate in the Atlantic Regional Wrestling Camp coming up in Fredericton, NB. Wile along with his teammate Levy both wrestle out of the Metro Amateur Wrestling Club located in Sackville, NS. Both Wile and Levy wrestled for the U18 New Brunswick team under coaches CJ Thomas, Jordan Smith and Tom MacRae.
