Greater Victoria Sports Hal of Fame – (Victoria, BC – December 18, 2018) The Greater Victoria Sports Hal of Fame (GVSHoF) is pleased to announce that Nick Tuele has been inducted into the Hall as an Honourary Life Member. The Honourary Life Membership special designation recognizes extraordinary contributions to the GVSHoF over an extended period of time.

Tuele joined the Board of Directors in 2002, bringing previous Board and exhibition production experience to the GVSHoF. He served as Vice President from 2006 to 2008, President from 2008 to 2015 and Past President from 2015 to 2018.  Although he is no longer on the Board he is still active as the official archivist – working on displays and archiving historical memorabilia and documents.

“I am deeply humbled with this honour that the Board has bestowed on me,” said Tuele. “I could not have led the team in accomplishing our milestones without the significant work of all the volunteer Board members over the years and I am grateful to all of them. As well, the support of my wife, Susan Burns, was instrumental as I committed to many projects requiring undivided time and attention.”

Tuele spearheaded the annual Family Sport and Recreation Festival held every May at PISE, and the annual Bate Family/GVSHoF Vikes Award at the University of Victoria. He was also largely responsible for moving the GVSHoF displays to the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre (SOFMC) and the annual Induction Ceremony to the Westin Bear Mountain Resort.

“I am particularly pleased with the move to Bear Mountain for our annual Induction Ceremony and dinner. The tremendous support we have received from Dan Mathews and his team at Ecoasis made our task much easier,” adds Tuele.

Tuele was presented with his award by Shannon Drew, Ecoasis Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and Community, at a special luncheon at the Westin Bear Mountain.

Tuele is the 12th individual to be made an Honourary Life Member. The others are: John and Marilyn Bate (2016), Jeevan Dillon (2016), Pat Hall (2016), Irene Harrison (2016), Alan Perry (2014), Dave Unwin (2011), Michael O’Connor (2009), Cathy Travis (2009), Bill Lang (2006), and Bert Bertoia (2006).
