Ottawa Sport Council – Since the Ottawa Sport Council was formed, community sport organizations have articulated their need for accessible, up-to-date educational resources to us—and we’ve responded with urgency. From a series of webinars to our Sport Summit, we’ve helped stakeholders add value to their respective sport programs by making them more inclusive, innovative, ethical and respectful.

Now, we are introducing a free series of video podcasts to the Ottawa sport community, developed with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, titled:

• How to Facebook
• Governance: Building Your Best Board
• Volunteer Management

How to Facebook has all the information you need to get the most out of your organization’s Facebook page. You’ll learn modern techniques to optimize your page, drive your posts to a larger audience and monitor traffic. We’ll also show you how to incorporate uploaded and live video into your content plan.

In five segments, Governance: Building Your Best Board will show you how to build a top-tier board for your organization. You’ll learn the difference between governance and operations, who/how to recruit, what they need to know before they apply and how to maximize their contributions.

Volunteer Management introduces advanced-level insights for managing a volunteer group. These four segments will show you how to manage your board, but the teachings apply to any group of volunteers. Learn proactive management strategies to ensure you retain your volunteer base and are better able to monitor and evaluate its performance.

The series of podcasts was produced in collaboration with subject matter experts from Business Sherpa Group, Sport Information Resource Centre, Set the Barr and Sport Law & Strategy Group. Modules range from 60–75 minutes.

We invite you to use these educational materials, and welcome any feedback you may have.
