BC Games Society  – Victoria – The BC Games Society announced today the appointment of nine new members to the Board of Directors. The new members include incoming Chair Jamey Paterson, Paralympian Tyler Mosher, and sport sector leaders Marilyn Payne, Laura Watson, Henry Pejril, and Michelle Webster. Also joining the board with specific areas of expertise are Candy Hodson, Jim Martin, and Karen Barnstable.

“Congratulations to the nine newest members of the BC Games Society board,” said the Hon. Peter Fassbender, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. “The wealth of knowledge and expertise of the incoming board members will contribute to the continued success of the BC Games and the benefits these events bring to participants and communities in B.C. The Government of British Columbia offers its sincerest gratitude to the outgoing members of the board for their exceptional leadership, dedication, and contributions to the society.”

The nine new members of the board are joined by current board members Olympians David Calder and Simon Whitfield, sport leader Rochelle Winterton, and community leaders Donna Mihalcheon and Sarah Zimmerman. Continuing with the board is Chris Graham who will sit as an ex-officio representative of the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

“I am very excited to lead this talented group of Directors and to work together with staff to continue to build a strong organization supporting the development of participants, volunteers, and communities,” said Jamey Paterson, incoming BC Games Society Chair.

Paterson is replacing outgoing Chair Byron McCorkell, the City of Kamloops Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, who has served on the board since 2011.

“It is an honour to welcome such a diverse and experienced group of new board members to the BC Games Society. Each will contribute their expertise and leadership to build upon our 40 years of success in sport and community development,” said Kelly Mann, President and CEO of the BC Games Society.

The BC Games Society is the leadership organization that guides the BC Winter and BC Summer Games and prepares Team BC for national multi-sport games. The 15-member board is appointed by the Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and is responsible for setting policy and direction to ensure the objectives of the society are met.
