National Ringette League announces annual award winners
Ringette Canada – WINNIPEG, MANITOBA – April 14, 2018 – The National Ringette League (NRL) today presented its annual awards recognizing the performance of NRL athletes and coaches during regular season play. The awards were presented at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Save-On-Foods Canadian Ringette Championships, which have been taking place in Winnipeg, Manitoba this week.
Trophies were presented to the following:
Rookie of the Year (the most outstanding player in her first year of NRL competition)
Britney Snowdon- Atlantic Attack
Most Valuable Player (the player judged to be the most valuable to her team)
Shaundra Bruvall – Calgary RATH
Top Centre (the most outstanding player that played predominantly the centre position)
Kaitlyn Youldon- Gatineau Fusion
Top Forward (the most outstanding player that played predominantly forward position)
Martine Cassie – Atlantic Attack
Top Defense (the most outstanding player that played predominantly the defense position)
Erica Voss – Richmond Hill Lightning
Top Goalkeeper (the most outstanding goalkeeper)
Halli Berry – Richmond Hill Lightning
Coaching Staff of the Year (the most outstanding coaching staff group of the year, this award is voted on by the teams)
Calgary RATH – Paul Geddes (head coach), Grant Exner (assistant coach), Trina Janssens (assistant coach)
NRL Top Scorer
Kaitlyn Youldon – Gatineau Fusion (100 points)
Julie Blanchette – Montreal Mission (100 points)
NRL Scoring Champion
Martine Cassie – Atlantic Attack (46 goals)
About the National Ringette League
The National Ringette League (NRL) is the showcase league for ringette in Canada and strives to be the premiere women’s sports league in the country. The league has 15 teams participating in two conferences – a Western Conference with five teams and an Eastern Conference with 10 teams. The objectives of the NRL are to move ringette into the mainstream of Canadian sports activity, encourage greater public awareness of ringette, create more and better competitive opportunities for athletes, and achieve positive financial results at both a league and team level.
