Bowls Canada Boulingrin – Over this past weekend, Lawn Bowls clubs across Canada participated in National Bowls Day. More than 60 clubs hosted events promoting the sport of bowls within their communities in collaboration with the ParticipACTION 150 Play List. It is estimated that well over 3,000 people participated in the successful event.

Some highlights from the weekend included a visit from the Honorable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, at Delta, B.C.’s Ladner Lawn Bowls Club‘s 100th anniversary celebration. ParticipACTION staff members joined the festivities at the Leaside Lawn Bowls Club Open House in Toronto.  On the East coast, Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club hosted a Come Try Bowls event with free lessons for all participants.

“We are so thrilled with the involvement of our local clubs across Canada” says Bowls Canada Boulingrin Executive Director Anna Mees. “Being included as #50 on the ParticipACTION 150 Play List is a fabulous opportunity to encourage more Canadians to get active and try the sport of Bowls. National Bowls Day gave our clubs the chance to showcase just how dynamic and fun the sport of bowls really is.”

About the ParticipACTION 150 Play List
To celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, ParticipACTION has created the ParticipACTION 150 Play List – the ultimate list of all the physical activities that make us Canadian. Throughout 2017 every Canadian, in all communities, schools and workplaces from coast to coast to coast, will be challenged to complete as many physical activities on the list as possible, track their efforts online and earn rewards along the way. The ParticipACTION 150 Play List is a collaborative effort supported by the Government of Canada, premier corporate partners Manulife, Chevrolet and Shaw, the Government of B.C. and national media partner Corus.
