Manitoba Soccer Association – Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Manitoba Soccer Association (MSA) crowned their inaugural Senior Men’s Futsal Provincial Champion for 2017/2018 on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 after a two-day tournament that took place at J.H. Bruns Collegiate.

Rovers FC won the championship after a perfect tournament, going 4-0 and defeating Winkler Storm in the finals by a score of 6-4.

The inaugural tournament saw 8 teams compete in two groups of 4, with each team playing three group matches. Rovers FC and Winkler Storm, both winners of their respective groups, then advanced to the final. All matches were fast paced and competitive with a high level of skill shown by all participants.

Rovers FC will now represent Manitoba in the 2018 Futsal Canadian Championship, which will take place April 19-22, 2018 in Kingston, Ontario. Manitoba will compete against teams from Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nunavut and Yukon.

Sebastian Goldstein, MSA Programs Manager, commented that, “We are very excited to be sending a Manitoba representative to this year’s Futsal Canadian Championship. We want to thank all participants for a fantastic tournament that included teams from various regions of the province. We look forward to seeing the growth of Futsal in Manitoba. Our thanks to the facility partners who helped us, the volunteers who gave from their valuable time, and the referees, players, coaches and fans for their contributions to this fantastic event. There were many exciting matches and we look forward to hosting the event in the future with even more interested senior teams. We acknowledge many of our Regional Members will be hosting Youth Futsal Festivals and we look forward to working with them to host a Youth Futsal Provincial competition in the future.
