Motivate Canada – Ottawa, ON – Motivate Canada is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for up to 50 Canadian youth, between the ages of 16 and 26, to contribute to the transformation of their communities through the power of sport and physical activity.

Developed by Motivate Canada with the support of The Sport for Life Society and the Aboriginal Sport Circle, the 2018 ViaYOUTH Summit is the evolution of more than two decades of innovation in youth-driven development, and leverages opportunities for partnership and collaboration both within and beyond the sport sector.

The inaugural ViaYOUTH Summit will be held in conjunction with the 2018 Sport for Life Canadian Summit at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec from Monday, January 22 to Wednesday, January 24, 2018. It will offer an opportunity for youth from diverse backgrounds to come together with the Canadian sport sector, empowering young people to lead positive change in their communities.

Developed and led by a passionate team of youth leaders from across Canada, the 2018 ViaYOUTH Summit program will include themes around personal and community transformation, leadership, mental and physical health, inclusion, and project planning. Delegates of the 2018 Sport for Life Canadian Summit will also have an opportunity to hear from the youth delegates with a digital “State of the Youth” address – a unique perspective on the Canadian sport sector from one of its most important stakeholders.

“The Program Committee is very excited for this opportunity. We are eager to provide delegates with the tools and inspiration that empowers them to want to make positive change within themselves, their peers, and within their communities,” says Kyla Crocker, ViaYOUTH Summit Program Committee. “Our program will invite youth to connect, learn and grow together. They will walk away from this experience with the confidence that their voice matters and together youth can make a difference!

The ViaYOUTH Summit will also provide a forum for a delegation of Indigenous youth role models from across Canada to come together in an Indigenous youth-led leadership development environment, combined with a strategic working session with key community and sport partners to collaborate on a vision for the future of Indigenous youth role model initiatives supporting sport, physical activity and community development.

“Motivate Canada is excited to embark on this evolution of our youth-driven development programming that has defined our work over the past 24 years,” says Motivate Canada’s CEO, Lisa Kwiatkowski. “With an overall spirit of collaboration, The ViaYOUTH Summit seeks to unite the core principles of our national programs – including ESTEEM Team, ACTIVATE Youth Leadership Forums, the GEN7 Indigenous Youth Role Model program, as well as our successful Ontario physical literacy initiative, Leading, Educating, Active Females (LEAF) – into a single platform. Led by a team of young alumni, and supported by key partners including the Sport for Life Society and the Aboriginal Sport Circle – as well as funding partners including Sport Canada – Motivate Canada is thrilled to take this opportunity to move the needle on youth engagement and youth leadership development with a unique collective-impact approach.”
