Racquetball Canada – Doubles competition is wrapped up at the Canadian Championships being held in Brossard, QC after two days of intense competition. The tournament continues to May 27 with singles events beginning today.

Michéle Morissette of Baie-Comeau and Christine Richardson of Winnipeg are on top of the podium with back to back Canadian Women’s Open Doubles titles.

The team faced Danielle Drury of Saskatoon and Jennifer Saunders of Winnipeg in the final round robin match. The two teams went into the match ranked one and two respectively, but both had perfect round robin results. Both games were extremely close but Morissette and Richardson prevailed with scores of 17-15 and 15-13.

Mike Green of Hamilton and Trevor Webb of Cambridge faced Nicolas Bousquet of Montréal and Samuel Murray of Baie-Comeau in the final.

The men’s doubles match went to three games, with Green and Webb winning 10-15, 16-14, 13-11. Each point was a battle with the momentum shifting several times throughout the duration of the match.

This is the first time that Green and Webb have played doubles together at the national level, however Green has won nine previous Canadian Men’s Open Doubles titles with different partners. This is Webb’s first title win.

Combined with his wins in singles events, this gives Green nineteen Canadian Championship titles as he has also held the Canadian Men’s Open Singles Champion title nine times. He is in the hunt for his tenth win at the 2017 championship event.

There were several other doubles skill and age events played over the past two days at the Canadian Championships. The Racquetball Canada Canadian Championships provides competition for both high performance and sport for life athletes.

The doubles final match and podium results are also listed at the end of this release.
