Moguls and Aerials Athletes Head to Deer Valley
Freestyle Canada – Deer Valley, Utah, February 1, 2017 – After their stop in Calgary last weekend, Canada’s mogul athletes now head to Deer Valley, Utah for the next leg of the FIS Freestyle World Cup tour this week. Two events lie ahead: single moguls on Thursday, followed by dual moguls on Saturday. For their part, the aerialists will compete in their third World Cup of the season after Beida Lake (China) and Lake Placid (USA).
Back in 2016, Justine Dufour-Lapointe emerged as the big winner of the Deer Valley competition, coming first in both events. Mikaël Kingsbury will no doubt strive to repeat past glories, having garnered the top spot in single moguls four times running until last season, when he finished second. Deer Valley is one of the favourite stops of Canadian athletes on the World Cup circuit, in big part due to the electrifying atmosphere that reigns during the three consecutive days of competition.
The single moguls event takes place on Thursday, February 2 and the dual moguls, on Saturday, February 4. View the complete schedule here.
Aerialists back in action
The last World Cup event for the aerials team was in Lake Placid at the start of 2017. Travis Gerrits and Catrine Lavallée both finished in the top 10 in their respective rankings. The team has spent the past few weeks training in Lake Placid ahead of the Deer Valley competition. Olivier Rochon made the most of that time to fine-tune his Lay Triple Full Full, a trick that no other athlete has successfully done for several years.
The aerials event takes place on Friday, February 3, with finals in the evening. View the complete schedule here.
Requests for interviews with the athletes prior to the event must be directed to Dominique Ladouceur at Dominique@freestylecanada.ski. The athletes will also be available after the competition.
BROADCAST NOTES: The moguls event will be played out on cbcsports.ca on Friday February 3rd from 5 pm to 6:45 pm ET. Aerials event will be streamed live from 10:00 pm to 11:30 pm ET.
