Canadian Freestyle Ski Association – Canadian freestyle skiers eager to compete

The FIS Ski World Cup Big Air season gets underway next weekend in Milan, Italy, with women’s and men’s big air competitions taking place on November 11 and 12, 2016.

The Milan competition is the first of three Big Air city events to be held over the course of the season that will be known as the first ever FIS Super Series, with freeskiing World Cup competitions taking place at each of the locations: Milan, Moenchengladbach, Germany (December 12), and Quebec City (February 11). For the first time ever, FIS Freestyle will present a full big air World Cup schedule, complete with crystal globes to be awarded to the top man and woman in the season.

Confirmed Canadian competitors in Milan include Alex Bellemare, Teal Harle, Noah Morrison, Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, Evan McEachran and Vincent Gagnier.

“This season, I want to advance as much as I can and stand out from the pack,” said Alex Beaulieu-Marchand. “At the Milan Big Air, I want to show everyone I’m still in the game. It will be fun to compete and see how I measure up against the others, see where I am at with my new tricks. I am also looking forward to reconnecting with my skiing friends and competitors, whom I haven’t seen in a long time.”

“We’re a slopestyle team first and foremost, but Big Air is a great complement to our discipline. Canada has always been an international driving force in urban skiing and on the rails. But in the past three years, we have really focused our training on jumps, and I think we could see some nice surprises in Big Air this year,” added coach Jean-François Cusson.

The Milan event will be first to be broadcast on CBC Sports (see schedule). As Freestyle Canada’s media partner, CBC Sports will broadcast events through the 2016-17 season in addition to in-depth storytelling across CBC Sports’s multiple platforms, and include live coverage of multiple freestyle skiing events on CBC TV or streamed at cbcsports.ca.
