Freestyle Canada – His second back-to-back wins of the 2016-2017 FIS World Cup season

Tazawako, Japan, February 19, 2017 – After yesterday’s single moguls event, athletes were back in action on the Tazawako moguls course today for the dual moguls event. Mikaël Kingsbury was crowned the winner of this duals event, as well as big winner of the weekend of competitions, after winning both the single and dual events, his second back-to-back wins of the season with Deer Valley’s. This victory is Mikaël’s 40th in World Cup competitions.
“The duals were extremely fast. From the get go, I had to face solid rivals but I managed to ski well on both sides of the course and to stay in control,” explained Kingsbury who had also previously won both events here in Japan, in 2015. “My next goal: back-to-back victories at World Championships,” continued Kingsbury, who is now in excellent position to win the big crystal globe awarded to the best freestyle athlete across all disciplines.

Mikaël Kingsbury might have won the only medal for the team, but the Canadian athletes did well overall. On the men’s side, Philippe Marquis finished in fifth place, and on the women’s side, Chloé Dufour-Lapointe finished fourth, followed by Andi Naude, sixth, Audrey Robichaud, seventh and  Maxime Dufour-Lapointe, eighth.

The moguls team is now headed to Thaiwoo, China to compete in the last two FIS World Cup competitions of the 2016-2017 season. They will then make their way to Sierra Nevada, Spain for the Freestyle FIS World Championships.
