Mikaël Kingsbury Captures 50th World Cup Win!

Freestyle Canada – Ruka, Finland, December 7, 2018- Mikaël Kingsbury got his World Cup season off to a flying start on Friday by winning the first mogul event on the 2018-19 calendar in Ruka, Finland, sealing his 50thcareer victory on the FIS circuit.
 
After leading the pack in the first run of the finals with 86.63 points, Kingsbury put the heat on in the second run with a score of 88.14, edging him ahead of French opponent Benjamin Cavet (86.45).
 
 “(Cavet) had 86 points, which I’d scored in the first run of the final, so I knew I had to do a perfect second run,” said Kingsbury. “Especially since my strategy was to just go with a big ‘back full.’ I was able to do a clean run in the super final, a really fast run with no mistakes.”
 
Kingsbury, World Cup defending moguls champion and winner of 14 Crystal Globes, also snagged his 74thcareer medal on the FIS circuit. The Deux-Montagnes native already had the most career World Cup victories, all disciplines combined, so his 50thwin on Friday just confirmed his domination of the sport. 
 
“I’m really happy with my day. I felt good from start to finish,” added Kingsbury. “It’s a great way to start the season when you already have the yellow bib (leader in the general rankings).”
 
The other Canadian athlete in the final, Laurent Dumais, finished in 11thplace.
 
On the women’s side, Justine Dufour-Lapointe placed sixth with 73.49 points in her first competition since her sister Maxime retired last summer. Justine was the only Canadian skier among the women to qualify for the final.
 
Chloé Dufour-Lapointe finished 20th, two spots behind Sofiane Gagnon, 18th.
 
The next leg of the World Cup for Canadian mogul athletes is December 15 and 16 in Thaiwoo, China.
