Canadian Paralympic Committee – Petitclerc to connect with local athletes training for Rio

CALGARY, January 13, 2016 – Chantal Petitclerc, Canada’s Chef de Mission for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, will continue her Canadian Tour on Tuesday, January 19 with a stop in Calgary, Alberta to promote Paralympic sport and athletes on the road to Rio.

Calgary will be Petitclerc’s second visit in a national tour that kicked off in Ottawa/Gatineau on Dec. 3, 2015.

In Calgary, Petitclerc will cheer on a wheelchair basketball demonstration and meet with local Rio 2016 hopefuls :

–        Wheelchair basketball player Chad Jassman, a London 2012 Paralympic Games gold medallist;

–        World champion 18-year-old para-triathlete Stefan Daniel, training to make his Games debut in Rio, where his sport will be on the Paralympic Games program for the first time.

Media are invited to the Mount Royal University gym for photo, video and interview opportunities – and the chance to try wheelchair basketball.

Calgary is the second stop on Petitclerc’s cross-country tour that will encompass eight Canadian cities until June 2016, with an aim to build awareness of Canadian Paralympic athletes. Petitclerc, a five-time Paralympian and 14-time Paralympic gold medallist in wheelchair racing, knows that community support is crucial to every athlete’s success.
