Golf Ontario – Click here for Round 2 Results, Boys & Girls

It was another hot day at the immaculate Oshawa Golf and Curling Club for the second round of the Investors Group Ontario Juvenile (U17) Championship.

Hailey McLaughlin from Granite Golf Club and a member of Team Ontario led the competition today on the girls’ side, “Well, yesterday’s round obviously wasn’t the best for me, I had to regroup, just push yesterday’s round aside” – she said.  McLaughlin said that her familiarity with the course allowed her success today, from hitting different clubs off the tee to focusing on working on problem areas from yesterday such as her putting and taking shorter shots onto the green “yesterday’s round obviously wasn’t the best for me. I had to regroup, just push yesterday’s round aside” – she said. She finished the (+1) 73 round birdie-par-birdie, a great way to finish a great round of golf to put her in a good position before tomorrow’s final round.  When asked how she will try to find success tomorrow, her answer was simple, “Just play my own game. I’ve been in situations like this before … not worry about what others are doing, just do what I want to do”.

McLaughlin leads the girls’ competition after the second round (+1) 73, her excellent round today put her in a great position ahead of tomorrow’s final round.  She was (E) 36 on the front nine with two bogeys and two birdies, and was (+1) 37 on the back nine with three bogeys and two birdies.

Yesterday’s leader from Oshawa Golf and Country Club, Madelin Boyd sits in second place after today’s round (+6) 78, and Team Ontario’s Vanessa Chychrun rounds out the top three (+6) 78 today.

Thomas Latter of Credit Valley Golf and Country Club and Ethan Cardwell of Oshawa Golf and Curling Club are T1 after the second round, while Michael Ikejiani of Barrie Country Club and Justin Matthews of Oshawa Golf and Curling Club are T3.  Thomas Latter was (-2) 34 on the front nine with two birdies and (E) 36 on the back nine with a bogey and a birdie. Ethan Cardwell who held the sole lead yesterday was (+4) 76 on the course today. He was (-2) 34 heading out on the front nine with two birdies, and heading out on the back nine he was (+6).

The exciting final round will take place tomorrow with the competition starting at 7:30. The top 20 female golfers and top 40 male golfers will compete.
