Marck-Sherk, Sear share top spot at Investors Group Ontario Women’s Amateur Championship
Golf Ontario – CAMBRIDGE – Another delay started off round three of the Investors Group Ontario Women’s Amateur Championship at Galt Country Club on July 13. A four-hour rain delay pushed the first tee time back to 11:30 a.m.
When the action finally got underway Ridgeway’s Madeline Marck-Sherk, from Bridgewater Country Club, remained at the top of the leaderboard but now has company in the form of opening-round leader Unionville’s Kelsey Sear. Both Marck-Sherk and Sear are four-over for the tournament and in the lead by four strokes. Marck-Sherk (71-71-78-220) only carded one birdie during the round and finished with a score of six-over (78).
Sear (69-78-73-220), from York Downs Golf & Country Club, played quite well during the day and carded a one-over (73). Sear remained calm throughout the round and slowly caught up to Marck-Sherk. She bounced back from her second round of six-over (78). Sear will look to continue her strong play from the third round during tomorrow’s final round.
Tied in third place are Team Ontario member Markham’s Victoria Zheng, from Station Creek Golf Club, and Mitchell’s Courtney Tolton. Zheng finished the day two-over (74) to bring her tournament total to eight-over (73-77-74-224). As for Tolton (73-73-78-224), she was six-over during the round.
Heading into the final round it should be a tight battle for both first and third place. The weather should stay dry tomorrow and not be a factor.
The final round starts at 7:30 a.m. and spectators are invited to Galt Country Club to take in the action. For full tournament information, including the leaderboard and pairings, see the tournament site at: https://gao.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/gao17/event/gao173/index.htm
