Manitoba Synchronized Skating Team off to Oshawa ON for Canadian Championships

Skate Canada Manitoba – WINNIPEG, MB.  February 16, 2018 – The University of Manitoba Ice Intrepid Synchronized Skating Team is headed to Oshawa for the 2018 Skate Canada Synchronized Skating Championships, February 23-25^th.

Ice Intrepid recently earned their spot to attend this national event while competing in Stonewall Manitoba at the Prairie Regional Synchronized Skating Championships.  The team competes in the Open category and at the Canadian Championships they will be competing against 13 other teams.  There will be 40 teams competing in Oshawa in 5 different medal categories.
 
Ice Intrepid is coached by Megan Maxwell and Jessica Watson; they have 19 skaters on the team.
 
“We are excited to be representing Manitoba and Saskatchewan at this high caliber event.  Our goal is to build on our technical and performance scores earned at our regional qualifier.  It is inspiring to attend this event where Canada’s top Junior and Senior teams will move on to compete at the ISU World Championships” says Head Coach Megan Maxwell.
 
Synchronized skating, or “synchro” is a specialized discipline of skating involving groups of eight or more skaters performing various group formations and maneuvers. The objective is for the team to perform as one unit executing circles, blocks, lines, wheels and intersections in unison to the music, while demonstrating quality edges, power and flow. Synchronized skating has grown in popularity around the world and Canada is considered a world-leader in this discipline.
