Manitoba Badminton Association – The U23 & Junior National Championships were held in Burlington, Ontario May 14 – 19, 2018. Four Manitoba athletes came home with medals. Thien Vo from Winnipeg came home with the silver medal in U23 Men’s Singles losing only his final match against the number one seed BR Sankeerth. Vo cruised through the first rounds of the competition beating SK’s Brandon Redekop and QC’s Thien Nguyen before meeting up with Miklos Kanyasi from NS in the semi-final. He defeated Kanyasi 21-11, 21-12 to advance to the final.

Rylan Ramnarace with his doubles partner won the U23 Mens’ Doubles Bronze Medal after being knocked out in the Semi Finals by the number one seeds. They advanced to the semi-final by winning against a QC/ON team of Cedric Hupe-Pageau and Alex Jarocki 21-12, 23-21. Ramnarace is from Winnipeg while his doubles partner is from Saskatchewan.

Hanna Rebizant from Winnipeg Beach and Tiffany Tantakoun from Winnipeg teamed up in U23 Women’s Doubles winning the Bronze Medal. They lost in the semi-final to the number 2 seeds Alexandra Mocanu and Talia Ng.

All four of these athletes have worked very hard to get to this level. They all train at the Winnipeg Winter Club here in Winnipeg.

Next season the 2019 Canada Winter Games is taking place in Red Deer, Alberta. Some of these athletes will be representing Manitoba at these games. Coming only every four years the Canada Winter Games is one of the most prestigious tournaments that takes place in Canada.

As well the U23 & Junior Nationals is coming to Winnipeg in May 2019. We are looking forward to seeing these four athletes compete at the national level right here in our own city.
