MacLennan and Milette strike gold in synchronized trampoline at Loulé World Cup
MacLennan of King City, ON and Milette of Longueuil, QC scored 46.950 points in the final to finish .200 points ahead of the Americans in second place. France rounded out the podium with the bronze medal.
“I’m really happy with how the final went today, it was the first competition together for Rosie and I in synchro so I’m really pleased with the results,” said Milette. “It gives me confidence going into the World Championship, we’re going to continue practicing our routines to be ready.”
In addition to her synchronized gold medal, MacLennan added a silver medal in the individual competition, finishing just back of Xueying Zhu of China with 57.105 points.
“I’m really happy with how today went, Sarah is a strong trampolinist and a strong competitor so I’m excited about what’s to come,” said MacLennan. “I’m also really happy with my routine in the individual final. I had a few mistakes in prelims that forced me to substitute a couple of skills. Today I did the planned routine and I’m really happy with how it went. After many months of building, I feel like I have great momentum for what’s next.”
Jason Burnett of Toronto, ON and Jacob Cranham of Whitby, ON finished fourth in the men’s synchronized final, missing the podium by less than half a point with a score of 50.350.
In addition to the World Cup, Canadian gymnasts competed in the double mini-trampoline (DMT) competition at the Loulé Cup, finishing second in the men’s team event and third in the women’s team final.
Callum Sundquist (AB), Ryan Sheehan (AB), and Mario Bruno (BC) teamed up with American gymnast Alexander Renkert to score 107.800 points and finish with the silver medal while Haley Nakonechni (SK) and Danielle Grieve (SK) competed with Lacey Kenkens and Tristan Van Natta of the United States to score 97.600 points and take home the bronze.
