Softball Canada – (Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is pleased to announce that Keith Mackintosh (Melfort, SK) has been appointed Head Coach of the Junior Women’s National Team, while Haylee O’Neill (Oakville, MB) will serve as one of his Assistant Coaches. Other members of the coaching staff will be announced at a later date.
 
Keith Mackintosh was an assistant coach with the Junior Women’s National Team the two previous cycles, helping to lead Canada to a fifth-place finish at the 2013 WBSC Junior Women’s World Championship in Brampton, ON and a fourth-place finish at the 2015 event in Oklahoma City, OK. As an athlete, he was a member of the Canadian Men’s National Team from 1999 to 2009, winning a Pan American Games Gold medal in 2003 along with two WBSC Men’s World Championship appearance in 2000 (fourth) and 2009 (Bronze). Following his retirement from the Men’s National Team program, he was named to the Women’s National Team Coaches Pool in 2012 and was the Head Coach of Team Saskatchewan at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, QC.
 
Haylee O’Neill was also added to the Women’s National Team Coaches Pool in 2012 and served as an assistant coach of the 2015 Junior Women’s National Team, helping the team to a fourth-place finish. She was a member of the Women’s National Team Athlete Pool from 2003 to 2005 before turning her focus towards coaching. She led Team Manitoba to a Silver medal at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, QC and remains in her position of Head Coach for the 2017 Canada Games.
 
“I’m very excited at the opportunity to coach the best junior softball players in Canada” stated Mackintosh. “Our goal will be to improve on our fourth place finish in 2015 with a strong performance in Florida next summer.”
 
Softball Canada named thirty-two (32) athletes to the Junior Women’s National Team Athlete Pool last month, with a possibility of more additions to be determined later. All athletes from the pool will attend a selection camp June 5-10, 2017 in Cloverdale, British Columbia. From this camp, the coaching staff will select a team to represent Canada at the 2017 WBSC Junior Women’s World Softball Championship scheduled for July 24-30 in Clearwater, Florida.
