Canadian Luge Association  – CALGARY—Luge Canada will head into the Olympic year with a new look to its Board of Directors.

The national body for luge in Canada wrapped up its 2017 Annual General Meeting by adding some familiar faces in Canada’s luge community to its Board of Directors including Chris Wightman, Martin Flanagan and Suzy Judson.

Olympian Chris Wightman will bring significant experience to the Board of Directors. The former national team athlete has done it all in the sport – from club and provincial coach, to television broadcast announcer to president of the Ontario Luge Association from 2010-2014.

Wightman will be joined by fellow past national team athlete, Martin Flanagan, who brings extensive knowledge of the sport from both the athlete and coach perspective. Now a corporate executive with strong business acumen, Flanagan has strong business development skills with creativity ideas that will support Luge Canada’s fundraising campaign.

Rounding out the newly elected members of the Board includes Suzy Judson, who has more than 20 years of experience volunteering in Canada’s sport community. Judson will take over as event’s chair on the Board over the next two years.

“This is an exciting, yet crucial time, in the history of the Canadian Luge Association,” said Steve Harris, president, Luge Canada. “We are in a good place both on and off the field play, but we need to continue to challenge ourselves further as a team if we truly want to achieve our goals of winning Canada’s first ever Olympic medal in the sport. The experience Chris, Martin and Suzy bring to our leadership group will be critical in helping get us across the finish line.”

The new members of the Board wasted no time getting to work over the two days of meetings as part of Luge Canada’s 2017 Annual General Meeting, while concentrating on the development of the organization’s long-term strategic plan to ensure the long-term financial sustainability and health of the sport in Canada.

The Canadian Luge Association is a not-for-profit organization responsible for governing the sport of luge across the country. With the financial backing of from the Government of Canada, Canadian Olympic Committee and Own the Podium, the Canadian Luge Association safely recruits and develops the nation’s current and future high-performance luge athletes with the goal of regularly climbing onto the international podium.
