Triathlon Canada —Current Treasurer, Steve Harrigan, appointed interim President until Board meeting January 30—

 

VICTORIA—Luc Landriault is stepping down as Triathlon Canada’s President to commit more time to his Quebec-based accounting firm, Papillon and Associates, which has witnessed significant international growth recently, the Board of Directors announced on Thursday.

 

Landriault, who was elected as President in 2013, spent nearly 10 years shaping the direction of one of Canada’s fastest growing sports while serving a variety of roles on Triathlon Canada’s Board of Directors. A strategic thinker and financially sound leader, the Saint-Sauveur, Que. resident was responsible for guiding a new era for Triathlon Canada as the national sport body’s president.

 

“Fortunately the workload has been steadily increasing with my accounting business, but that means I just don’t have the time required to commit fully to this position so I have to face reality – I just can’t do it all anymore. It is bittersweet because I absolutely love my sport,” said Landriault. “I am very proud of the work we did as a Board and staff to implement a new direction for the organization – one focused on creating a nationwide strategy to grow our membership and brand while improving our marketing reach, while ultimately helping to develop the next generation of Canadian Olympic and Paralympic champions.

 

“We have made great strides in this area. It is sad for me to leave at this time because, while we are on the right track, there is lots of work still to be done and I won’t be a part of seeing the finish line. That said, I know the team we have in place will get us there.”

 

Landriault, who brought a strength of building international relationships to the Board, will also resign from each of the other committees he serves on in the triathlon and sport community including: Multi-Sport Committee of the International Triathlon Union; Treasurer of Confederation of America’s Triathlon; Association of Commonwealth Triathlon; Association of French Speaking Countries of the International Triathlon Union; and Olympic Supporter of the Canadian Olympic Committee.

 

“Some of these responsibilities are small that don’t ask a lot of time, but if you don’t have the whole picture of what is going on globally then I feel I would not be able to be productive on these committees so I decided to resign from the whole thing,” added Landriault. “I absolutely love this sport. I love the people in the community, and most importantly I have never been more proud than watching the coaches and athletes wearing the Canadian uniform during an international triathlon race. It was a true pleasure and honour to represent each and every one of them.”

 

“Luc Landriault was committed to excellence both on and off the playing field and understood the importance of forging relationships with provinces and clubs from coast-to-coast-to-coast in Canada which has been so critical to our new approach in leading the sport,” said Tim Wilson, chief executive officer, Triathlon Canada. “We are going to miss him, but I know as a group we are better prepared to achieve our collective goals thanks to the solid foundation he has laid for us in this new era for Triathlon Canada.”

 

Triathlon Canada’s current Treasurer of the Board, Steve Harrigan of Ontario, will serve as the interim President until the Board of Directors holds an election at its next meeting, January 30, in Victoria.
