Sport Nova Scotia – HALIFAX, NS (April 2016) – Snowboarder Liam Moffatt, 18, of  Truro has been named Male Individual Athlete of the Month for his notable results at the 2016 Junior SBX Nationals held in Quebec. There, Liam placed third in the Junior event. This result was a personal and team best for the Snowboard NS Speed Team. Liam has also earned a spot to represent Canada at the Junior World Championships in Rogla, Slovenia.

 

Female Individual Athlete of the Month is 13 year-old gymnast  Enya Pouliot of Bedford. At the Gymnix International Challenge in Montreal, Enya placed 2nd in Floor and 4th in Balance Beam. At this event, Enya competed against high performance athletes from the United States, Belgium, Chile, Mexico, and Canada.

 

Brett Johnson has been named Male Team Athlete of the month for his performance at the 2016 Americas Rugby Championship. Brett earned his first National start in a match verses Chile. In this match, Brett scored a spectacular try. With his great effort, Canada placed third in the tournament.

 

Karlee Burgess of Hilden has been awarded Female Team Athlete of the Month. Karlee was selected to represent Canada at the VoIP World Junior Championships 2016 in Taarnby, Denmark. With Karlee as second, Team Canada defeated USA in the final game, earning Gold.

 

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
