2017 Canada Summer Games – We are now 11 days away from the Games. Across Canada, athletes, coaches and officials are busy finishing up their training and preparations for the Games, and the Host Society is putting the final touches on Games preparation as we get ready to welcome the Nation to Winnipeg from July 28 to Aug 13.

COMING UP NEXT WEEK (July 24-28)

The Manitoba Hydro Torch Relay comes to Winnipeg!
Torchbearers chosen from over 200 applications will carry the Roly McLenahan torch along one of 67 legs through the streets of Winnipeg on July 26. 

Torch Relay: 9:30 a.m. at the Centennial Torch on Memorial Boulevard (with “Dancing” Gabe Langlois running the first leg)
Community celebration: 12:00 p.m. barbecue at Manitoba Hydro Place, on Edmonton Street (between Portage and Graham). 

Plan your coverage now for Wednesday, July 26’s event:

  • Help us get the word out to the community! We hope Winnipeggers will line the route to cheer on the torchbearers! (see map below)
  • Book interviews with torchbearers before the big day
  • Line up live on location opportunities along the route or at the Community celebration.

The Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Canada Games Festival will attract some of Canada’s greatest artists. Plan your coverage now to have best access to the performers:

  • Book interviews with artists now, for pre-Games or Games-time use.
  • Help us get the word out: the Forks will be the place to be after competitions – with amazing Festival line-up from across the country and nightly fireworks! (see schedule and Festival site map below)

The Athletes Village will be off limits to media during the Games. There may be an opportunity to tour the dorms and other Village amenities between July 24-26. Stay tuned for news next week, or contact Media Relations for further inquiries.
