Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association – Alan Rogan of Lakeland College has been named the CCAA Athletic Director of the Year.

Rogan received the award at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Hall of Fame Banquet this evening in Abbotsford, BC.

“Alan has earned the respect of his peers and student-athletes through hard work, dedication, trust and competency,” said David Munro, CCAA VP Sport Development. “Lakeland had a tremendous year hosting and winning championships and Alan orchestrated all of it.”

The CCAA Athletic Director of the Year award recognizes administrative excellence within the campus and college community environment. The award, which has been given out annually since 2000, recognizes an Athletic Director who has made a significant contribution to their institution over the past academic year.

This past season, the Rustlers hosted the 2017 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship as well as the 2017 ACAC Curling Championship. The Rustlers Women’s Volleyball squad earned provincial gold on home soil before moving on to capture the institution’s first-ever CCAA National Championship at Camosun College in Victoria, BC, in March.

A total of 18 student-athletes from Lakeland received the CCAA National Scholar Award last fall and recently, two Rustlers were named CCAA Academic All-Canadians.

“Alan has a strong feel for all aspects and levels of athletics and as a result takes special pride in nurturing student-athletes to be the best they can be on and off the court,” said Munro.

Rogan, who was a major contributor in recent CCAA discussions with Curling Canada, currently serves on the CCAA Executive and Board of Directors as the Vice President of Eligibility.

He is considered an instrumental and respected leader among ACAC and CCAA decision-makers and has become a mentor to younger Athletic Directors.

“Alan is a visionary who forges new paths,” said Munro. “He is a humble, gifted leader and epitomizes what an Athletic Director should be in the CCAA.”

In the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, Rogan has spearheaded the development of Futsal. In one short season under Rogan’s leadership as the Futsal Convenor, the sport has turned the corner from crisis to stability with double the number of participants, lower costs and eager new hosts.

Rogan is dedicated to exploring the idea of one day bringing the sport to the CCAA.

A former Lakeland College student himself, Rogan once suited up for the Men’s Volleyball team. He became the Equipment Room Supervisor at the College in 1986 and continued to work his way up the ranks until 2006, when he was named the Athletic Director.

Rogan and the Rustlers are active members in the Lloydminster and Vermillion, AB, communities. More than 30 of his student-athletes coach at Rustlers Club Volleyball (U13 to U19), where they also run several camps in the local area. In addition, Rogan is a volleyball coach himself at St Jerome’s High School.
