Karate Canada – Montreal, May 4th 2018 –   Karate Canada wishes to acknowledge and thank the Government of Canada and Sport Canada for its support towards the preparation of Karate Canada’s top kumite athletes in the pursuit of podium success at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Sport Canada has recently approved a recommendation from Own The Podium (a partner organization that provides technical support to national sport organizations with the aim of delivering more Olympic and Paralympic medals for Canada) to provide Karate Canada with enhanced excellence financial support in the amount of $100,000 (for the 2018-2019 fiscal year). Own the Podium issues funding recommendations using an evidenced based, expert driven, targeted and collaborative approach. This enhanced funding will significantly improve Karate Canada’s ability to support the preparation of athletes who demonstrate evidence of podium potential for the 2020 Olympic Games, via its Team 2020 program.

“Together with the expertise and other vital support already provided by Sport Canada and by Own The Podium, this enhanced excellence funding will be of tremendous help to Karate Canada’s High Performance program for years to come, and we’re truly grateful for this highly beneficial partnership, and for the Canadian government and Heritage Canada’s continued and generous support” says Karate Canada’s Executive Director, Mr. Olivier Pineau. ”This news is the outcome of sustained, focused and dedicated work by our High Performance department, and is a testament to the great results and progress achieved by our top athletes and coaches over the last couple of years. We’re very excited for what lies ahead.”
