Racquetball Canada – Winnipeg, MB, May 1, 2018 – Many of Canada’s young athletes repeated last year’s podium results at the 2018 Canadian Junior Racquetball Championships held from April 25 to 28 in Calgary, Alberta. 
 
Simon Comeau of Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka, QC won the Boy’s 18 & U singles event. Comeau has been on the podium consistently over the years and winning the 18 & U event in his last year as a junior age athlete was a fitting way to finish off his junior career. Comeau and his partner Kaleb Osborne of Penetanguishene, ON repeated as the gold medal winners in the Boy’s 18 & U doubles event. 
 
Alexis Iwaasa of Lethbridge, AB finished off her junior career with double gold medals in the Girl’s 18 & U singles event and in the doubles event with partner Cassie Prentice of Macrorie, SK. Iwaasa has been the Canadian singles champion in her age category for the past seven years straight. Iwaasa and Prentice also won the doubles event together in 2017. 
 
Ian Frattinger of Martensville, SK came out on the top of the podium in the Boy’s 16 & U singles event. Frattinger had held his age title for several years running until 2017 so winning it back was an accomplishment for the Saskatchewan athlete. Frattinger teamed up with Kyle Dick of Wheatley, ON to win silver in the Boy’s 18 & U doubles event. 
 
Logan Boudreau of Saint-Charles Borromee, QC and Sean Sauvé of Mercier, QC won the Boy’s 16 & U doubles event. 
 
Juliette Parent of Saint-Jacques De Montcalm, QC had a big win in Girl’s 16 & U singles. This is Parent’s first year in this age category so her hard work over the season paid off. Parent also won silver in the 18 & U doubles event with her sister Marjolaine Parent. 
 
Nathan Jauvin of Terrebonne, QC repeated his result from 2017 with a gold medal win in the Boy’s 14 & U singles event. Riley Sommerville of Langley, BC finished in first in the Girl’s 14 & U singles event. Jauvin won silver in the Boy’s 16 & U doubles event with partner Kody Bordeaux of St-Charles Borromee, QC and Somerville partnered up with Chloe Jauvin of Terrebonne, QC to win gold in the 14 & U Girl’s doubles. 
 
Naman Gauri of Lethbridge, AB and Caylen Yaretz of Calgary, AB teamed up to win gold in the Boy’s 14 & U doubles event. 
 
Medals were awarded in boys and girls singles and doubles events in several younger age and skill categories. 
 
Athletes who earned the right to represent Canada at the 2018 International Racquetball Federation World Junior Championships in November are as follows. The final team will be confirmed at a later date.

Kyle Dick of Wheatley, ON was presented with the Sherman Greenfeld Award and Camila Wilscam of Repentigny, QC won the Heather Stupp Award. These prestigous  awards are given annually to one male and female athlete, respectively, who exemplify excellence in racquetball both on and off the court while competing at the Canadian Junior Racquetball Championships.
 
Team Québec won the Provincial Points total with Team Ontario coming in second. Team Alberta finished in third. 
 
The Canadian Junior Racquetball Championships is a unique event which provides both a development and high performance opportunity for Canada’s young racquetball athletes. Results in the 18 & U, 16 & U and 14 & U age categories will determine spots on Canada’s team for the 2018 World Junior Racquetball Championships. The event also provides the opportunity for novice athletes to complete in a national event and for Racquetball Canada to identify athletes with potential for international competition at an elite level.
