Baseball Canada – BARRIE-The Intercounty Baseball League All-Stars used a pair of two run homers and struck out 11 Junior National Team batters as the came away with a 6-4 win this afternoon at Coates Stadium.

Box Score – IBL 6 Canada 4

The game was played as part of the IBL’s annual All-Star Game and saw nine former Junior National Team members suit up for the IBL All-Stars.

Junior National Team outfielder Tyler Duncan (Sooke, BC) paced the offence with a pair of hits and drove in two runs before picking up game MVP honours. The juniors pounded out thirteen hits to the IBL’s nine and left 11 runners on base, while committing three errors on defence.

Duncan nearly sent the game to extras in the top of the ninth as he stung a ball that travelled to the gap in left that had a chance to drop but was caught to end the game with two runners being left on base.

“I thought it was a great ballgame today,” said Manager Greg Hamilton. “I was happy with the way we battled back after being down early. We could have folded up early but we competed and found our way back into the ballgame. A bounce or a hit at the right time and it could have been a different result.”

The IBL All-Stars struck early in the top of the first as three consecutive singles followed by an error led to one run crossing home plate before JNT starter William Sierra (Montréal, QC) struck out a pair and got a fly out to centre to leave the bases loaded.

The All-Stars flexed their muscle in the second and third innings using a pair of two run homers to build a 5-0 lead. With Sierra still on the mound in the second, a one out single scored a fly ball that landed just over the right field fence for a two run homer before Junior National Team alum Brandon Dailey (Brantford, ON) smacked a two run shot in the third after reliever Wesley Moore (Surrey, BC) allowed a lead off walk.

The juniors made it a ballgame in the fifth striking for four runs to pull within one of the lead. Edouard Julien (Québec, QC) got things going with a one out single to the right side before Cooper Davis (Mississauga, ON) drew a walk. Dondrae Bremner (Toronto, ON) then laced a double into the gap in left that scored Julien before Adam Hall (London, ON) reached on an error that brought Davis in from third. After Hall stole second base, Tyler Duncan (Sooke, BC) lined a single to left that scored Bremner and Hall to cut the IBL’s lead to one.

The IBL added an insurance run in the eighth as an error and a single put runners on the corners before a sac-fly brought the runner in from third.

Reliever Sam Shoemaker (Lions Bay, BC) turned in a pair of scoreless innings on the mound in the fifth and sixth innings allowing just one hit, while striking out one batter. Jack DeCooman (North Vancouver, BC) was on the mound for one run, of the unearned variety, over one a two-thirds innings of work, while Landon Leach (Pickering, ON) worked one and a third scoreless innings.
