Institut national du sport du Québec  – Montreal, August 3, 2016 – The Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) is proud to have supported 45 athletes from 16 different sports in their preparation for the Rio Olympic Games, accounting for 83% of the Quebec athletes who are part of the 314-member Canadian delegation. Thanks in large part to its experts, INS Québec has provided world-class support and training to Quebec’s high-performance athletes and their coaches.

Working closely with Olympic synchronized swimmers Jacqueline Simoneau and Karine Thomas, INS Québec’s scientific and medical teams deployed their experts in biomechanics, performance analysis, physiotherapy and sports medicine to support them throughout the Olympic cycle.

Our sports science experts also helped with Quebec fencer Joseph Polossifakis’ rehabilitation and conditioning. After suffering a severe concussion, Polossifakis returned to competition in 2015 and successfully qualified for his first Olympic Games.

Cyclist Hugo Houle worked closely with his coach and our teams of physical trainers and physiotherapists to not only qualify for the Olympics but to achieve an unprecedented level of fitness. Of course, this would not be possible without the state-of-the-art facilities at the Institut’s complex, in which judokas, fencers, gymnasts and divers participating in the XXXI Olympiad hone their talents on a daily basis.

INS Québec is also a member of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute (COPSI) Network. This network, which includes four institutes and three centres, supports high-performance athletes and their coaches by providing essential services in the pursuit of athletic and personal excellence. More than 80% of Team Canada’s athletes participating in the Rio Olympic Games received support and training from the COPSI Network.

To learn more about INS Québec’s services or for media interviews, a list of experts is available on our website.
